In short

Hide Users does not collect personal data, does not require an account, contains no advertising, has no network features and does not send usage or performance statistics (no telemetry). netDesk.IT receives no data from people who use the app.

Data saved on your PC

The app keeps only on your computer, in the folder %AppData%\netDesk.IT\HideUsers, what it needs to be convenient to use:

• the language and the theme you chose (lingua.txt and tema.txt);
• the log of unexpected errors (errori.log: date and time, point in the program and technical message of the error; it does not exceed 200 KB) and a line with the Store licence status (active, trial, expiry). It never contains account names.

Windows accounts

To show the list, the app reads from Windows the names and full names of the local accounts of this PC and displays them in its window. This information is not saved by the app, is not sent to anyone and does not appear in the error log. To warn you before you hide the last visible administrator, the app also reads which accounts belong to the Administrators group; this is not saved.

Windows settings the app changes

To do its job, and only when you press “Apply changes”, Hide Users writes to Windows (not to the app folder), in the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserList:

• one value for each account you hide, named after the account and set to 0: this is the mechanism Windows uses to decide which accounts not to show on the sign-in screen;
• when you make an account visible again, the matching value is removed.

This data is not transmitted to anyone, not even to netDesk.IT. The app folder is deleted by removing it or uninstalling the app. Uninstalling the app does not remove the list of hidden accounts from Windows: if you want them to appear again, make them visible again with the app before uninstalling it.

Support information

The “Copy support information” button in the “About” window copies to the clipboard, only when you press it, the app and Windows versions, the language, whether the app is running as administrator, the type of installation, the licence status, the number of accounts listed and of hidden ones, and the last lines of the error log. It never contains account names or passwords and is not sent anywhere: you decide whether to paste it into a support message.

Network connections

Hide Users has no network features: it does not connect to the Internet, does not contact servers of netDesk.IT or of third parties and does not send any data. The only check that involves the network, the licence verification, is performed by Windows with the Microsoft Store.

Microsoft Store

If you install the app from the Microsoft Store, download, installation, updates, free trial and purchase are handled by Microsoft under the Microsoft Privacy Statement; the app only reads the licence status from Windows.

Since netDesk.IT does not receive personal data through the app, there is nothing for us to provide, correct or delete. For any question write to info@netdesk.it.
